The United Kingdom’s Gambling Commission (UKGC) has imposed a fine of approximately $163,000 (GBP 122,835) on Stakelogic, a games developer, after discovering that some of its online slot games were functioning faster than permitted under UK regulations.

Slot Games Operating at Excessive Speeds

The violation centers around the speed of Stakelogic’s slot game titled Tiger Temple 88, which featured spin intervals of just 1.97 seconds. According to UKGC guidelines on responsible product design, the minimum allowed spin interval for online slots is 2.5 seconds. Investigations revealed that Tiger Temple 88, alongside several other Stakelogic titles, failed to meet this minimum timing. The games operated too quickly by intervals ranging from 0.001 to 0.675 seconds, with many exceeding the permitted speed by at least 0.042 seconds.

The breach with Tiger Temple 88 was identified between May 28 and May 30 of the previous year. Other games were found to have similar timing issues during various periods spanning from October 31, 2021, through to October 30, 2025.

Response and Corrective Actions by Stakelogic

John Pierce, the UKGC’s director of enforcement and intelligence, explained that after Stakelogic was alerted to the issue, the developer promptly suspended the affected games. The company has since put forward robust measures to assure the Commission of improved policies and controls aimed at preventing recurrence of such regulatory breaches.

Cause of the Speed Breach

The UKGC determined that the root cause was inaccurate measurement methods used by Stakelogic. The developer relied on manual stopwatch timing to verify compliance with remote technical standards, a practice deemed insufficient by the regulator. This shortfall highlighted flaws in Stakelogic’s quality assurance processes and incident management, failing to meet licensing requirements.

Recognizing these failings, Stakelogic accepted the UKGC’s findings and committed to revamping its testing procedures and overall compliance framework. Furthermore, it disabled all the impacted games in the UK market immediately upon discovery. Instead of a formal financial penalty, the gaming firm agreed to this fine as a resolution.

Broader Compliance Challenges for UK Gambling Commission

While the UKGC continuously seeks to improve its enforcement and compliance strategies, challenges remain. In recent efforts, the Commission has increased its use of artificial intelligence to curb money laundering within the sector. However, John Pierce recently expressed dissatisfaction with these AI tools, noting they have not delivered the anticipated effectiveness.
