On Tuesday, June 9, a female resident of Las Vegas was arrested following reports of animal cruelty at a well-known tourist spot. The arrest happened after police received a tip concerning mistreatment of a young duck at the outdoor fountains of the Venetian Resort.

Details of the Abuse

The 29-year-old suspect, identified only by her initials D. R., allegedly jumped into the Venetian fountain around 1:29 pm to seize a baby female duck named Daffy. Surveillance footage captured her inflicting harm on the duck, including hitting, throwing, shaking, and dropping the bird, as well as forcefully extending its wings.

Throughout the incident, D. R. was seen walking around holding the duck while continuing to abuse it. Police officers responded quickly, locating the suspect with the injured duck and attempting to detain her. Despite resisting, she was eventually taken into custody and charged with willful maiming or torturing an animal.

Condition of the Animal and Legal Proceedings

The duck was visibly distressed and trembling, suffering pain particularly in its right wing. According to the police report, D. R. showed no remorse for the harm caused and acted without any justification.

D. R. is currently held on $6,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 15, to face charges related to the animal cruelty case.
