The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has arrested Samuel Silverman, previously a manager for Fresno State men’s basketball and an employee at DraftKings. Silverman is implicated in a gambling fraud case centered on suspicious bets placed on college proposition wagers with BetMGM. The case involves a group of five individuals, including a Fresno State basketball player.
Details of the Scheme and Investigation
The inquiry started after the NCAA alerted Nevada authorities about unusual betting patterns linked to Fresno State player Michael Robinson. Silverman is suspected of leveraging his past connection with the basketball team to recruit Robinson, who allegedly intentionally performed poorly in specific game situations. This allowed the group to win bets crafted around Robinson’s underperformance.
The fraudulent operation exploited prop bets, which allow wagering on detailed aspects of the game, including individual player statistics. The betting ring reportedly earned tens of thousands of dollars before being detected through financial transaction analysis connecting the suspects.
Among the five involved, only Silverman has been arrested and charged with gambling fraud and conspiracy. He was released on bail and is scheduled for a court appearance on August 4. It remains uncertain if others in the group will face legal action or penalties.

DraftKings has distanced itself from the scandal by clarifying that Silverman was no longer with the company and that the suspicious bets were placed at a different sportsbook.
