Betsson CEO Outlines Company’s Strategy and Recent Performance

Steady Growth Amid Short-Term Challenges
Betsson’s recent second-quarter results highlight the company’s sustained momentum despite facing some immediate obstacles. CEO Pontus Lindwall emphasized the company’s focus on long-term expansion in key emerging markets by prioritizing both customer acquisition and retention. At the same time, Betsson continues to enhance its proprietary technology and adapt to evolving market demands.
Financial Performance and Market Highlights
The company reported positive financial metrics, with revenue reaching a record high of EUR 310 million (approximately $354 million). Active customer numbers grew by 32% compared to the previous year. The surge in consumer interest around mid-June, coinciding with the FIFA World Cup, contributed to attracting many new bettors and increasing engagement among existing users. Lindwall remarked that while major tournaments often condense months of activity into a few intense weeks, this time the boost in activity may have a more lasting impact.
Latin America emerged as a particularly promising market segment, expanding by 32% year-over-year. Within the region, Peru and Argentina led growth through consistent local marketing efforts and gradual product optimization rather than focusing solely on high-profile campaigns. Lindwall explained that this tailored approach aligns well with Betsson’s strategy to meet local preferences.
Despite these achievements, some areas lagged behind. The company’s B2B division did not surpass its results from the previous year, prompting efforts to rebuild momentum with partners and refine its product offerings. Overall, earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) stood at EUR 42 million ($48 million), representing a year-on-year decline but an improvement compared to the previous month. Lindwall highlighted how the company is carefully balancing profitability alongside growth initiatives, especially in markets with high potential.
Advancements in Platform and Product Innovation
Innovation remains central to Betsson’s growth strategy. Their proprietary platform continues to be a vital asset for managing key functions such as payments and customer data. Recently, the company has increased its focus on artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, particularly in customer service and marketing. Lindwall noted that AI plays an important role in managing scale, especially during major events like the World Cup.
“Within Betsson, artificial intelligence, AI, has been an important factor supporting, for example, customer service and various predictive tools.”

Product enhancements also help maintain Betsson’s competitive edge. Innovative features like “Goal Rush” and “Super Sub” have been introduced to make sports events more interactive and provide extended betting opportunities. On the casino front, the platform added hundreds of new game titles, including exclusive selections, offering customers more reasons to stay engaged with Betsson.
Lindwall is monitoring the development of prediction markets but remains cautious about entering this space quickly. While these markets have gained traction in the United States, regulators elsewhere are likely to treat them as conventional betting products. For Betsson, this regulatory classification is not a major concern, but the user experience offered by prediction platforms may offer valuable insights for attracting new types of players.
