DraftKings Targets Alberta for Its Next Canadian Market

DraftKings has revealed its intention to join Alberta’s emerging online sports betting and iGaming sector. As the province prepares to roll out its regulated gaming market, DraftKings aims to become one of the prominent operators capitalizing on this opportunity.

Second Canadian Province for DraftKings Expansion

The company plans to offer both its sportsbook and online casino platforms in Alberta, striving to establish an early presence in the competitive landscape. Greg Karamitis, the executive vice president and general manager of sports at DraftKings, expressed enthusiasm about this move.

He stated that expanding into Alberta aligns perfectly with their strategy to grow in Canada and offers sports fans in the province an engaging experience, especially with the event timing coinciding with the World Cup taking place in North America.

Alberta will represent DraftKings’ 34th market worldwide and marks their second venture within Canada, following their initial launch in Ontario, which was the first province to legalize and regulate online gaming and sports betting.

Looking Ahead to the 2026 Launch

DraftKings is targeting a launch date set for July 13, 2026, in line with Alberta’s planned market opening. The company faces competition from numerous other operators aiming for a share of this new and promising market.
