Tim Miller to Leave UK Gambling Commission After a Decade of Service

The UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced the upcoming departure of Tim Miller, its executive director of policy and research. Miller will be stepping down later this year, allowing the commission sufficient time to find a suitable replacement.

A Decade of Impact and Achievements at the UKGC

Tim Miller’s exit, set for September 2026, marks the end of a 10-year tenure filled with key contributions to the UKGC. During this period, he played a pivotal role in advancing the commission’s research capacity and evidence framework.

Miller led the creation and launch of the Gambling Survey for Great Britain, an unprecedented and comprehensive study providing deep insights into the gambling behavior of the British public. This survey stands out as a unique research endeavor globally.

Additionally, Miller was integral in putting into effect the protective measures recommended by the UK Government’s Gambling Act Review White Paper, which introduced enhanced safeguards to protect vulnerable individuals from gambling-related harm.

The UKGC has advised that details on how Miller’s responsibilities will be managed following his departure will be shared in due course.

Reflections on His Career and Farewell

Reflecting on his career, Miller described his decade at the UKGC as the longest and most fulfilling role of his professional life. He attributed the rewarding nature of his position largely to the dedicated colleagues he worked alongside, making his decision to leave a difficult choice motivated by his readiness for new challenges.

“This has been largely due to the amazing and dedicated colleagues that I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside. That’s what made it a hard decision to leave, but after ten years, I felt ready for the next challenge.”
