Dan Keene Takes the Helm as Permanent CEO
The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) has officially named Dan Keene as its permanent chief executive officer, a role he assumed on April 21, 2026. Keene, who previously served as interim CEO, has been recognized for his significant contributions to Alberta’s gaming industry and is entrusted to lead the province’s emerging iGaming market into the future.
Keene’s Background and Achievements in Gaming
Before this appointment, Dan Keene gained extensive experience with the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC). Since July 2022, he held the position of Vice President of Gaming at AGLC, where he managed areas including retail and online gaming, loyalty initiatives, and regulatory compliance.
One of Keene’s notable accomplishments is the development of Winner’s Edge, Alberta’s pioneering province-wide casino loyalty program. Additionally, he has overseen the operations of PlayAlberta.ca, the sole legal online gambling platform for residents in Alberta.
Earlier in his career at AGLC, Keene served as Manager of Casino Products, leading a team responsible for selecting games offered at local casinos and Video Lottery Terminal (VLT) locations.
Board Confidence in Keene’s Leadership
Sanjeev Kad, Chair of the AiGC board, expressed strong support for Keene’s appointment, highlighting his operational expertise and deep understanding of the gaming sector. Kad emphasized that Keene’s leadership will be vital as the corporation prepares to launch a socially responsible and well-regulated iGaming market prioritizing player protection.
While Alberta readies its regulated online gaming space, the province aims to invite commercial operators to enter this new market segment. This expansion is designed to follow the successful model established by Ontario’s flourishing gaming industry.
The Alberta iGaming Corporation will oversee the development and management of this emerging commercial iGaming market, guiding its growth with a focus on regulation and responsibility.
