Strong Growth in US Gaming Industry Amid Uncertainty

Despite widespread geopolitical concerns, the American gaming sector has demonstrated remarkable growth and resilience. According to the latest report from the American Gaming Association (AGA), the industry’s revenue hit an unprecedented $78.6 billion in 2025, marking a 9.1% increase compared to the previous year.

Significant Economic Contributions

The gaming industry has proven to be a vital contributor to local and state economies, delivering $17.9 billion in tax revenues. Additionally, the sector supports approximately 1.8 million jobs nationwide, positioning it as a key employer and economic engine across the United States.

Comprehensive Industry Survey Highlights

The AGA’s survey covers 38 US jurisdictions that offer commercial casino gaming, sports betting, or both. Bill Miller, the AGA’s president and CEO, emphasized the importance of these results during uncertain economic times, highlighting the sustained popularity of regulated gaming and the strength of America’s unique gaming framework developed over many years.

Industry Outlook and Challenges

In a recent outlook, gaming CEOs expressed cautious optimism about the future, identifying challenges like rising wages, geopolitical risks, and regulatory changes. However, they remain confident in the industry’s prospects. Miller also noted the successful pushback against sweepstakes casinos in several major markets, achieved through collaboration with state and tribal regulators, law enforcement, and legal authorities.

Concerns Over Emerging Prediction Markets

Miller has increasingly voiced concerns about the burgeoning prediction market sector, viewing it as a threat to traditional gaming. He argues that these markets lack sufficient consumer protections and responsible gambling safeguards, which are core to the American gaming system.

Industry Division on Prediction Markets

While the AGA has actively campaigned against prediction markets operating outside established state and tribal gaming laws, not all industry players agree with this stance. Major companies such as DraftKings, Fanatics, and FanDuel have distanced themselves from the AGA’s opposition, choosing instead to embrace growth opportunities in the prediction market space as an inevitable evolution.

Contentious Industry Dynamics

The debate has even led to pointed disparagement from Miller towards regulatory figures, illustrating the tension within the industry’s leadership over how best to navigate these emerging challenges and innovations.
