UK Gambling Commission Initiates New Role to Address Illegal Betting

The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced an opening for a new leadership position dedicated to combating illegal gambling activities. This decision comes amid growing concerns about unlawful betting operators affecting Great Britain’s gaming industry.

Responsibilities and Work Environment of the Role

The role, available as either a full-time position with an annual salary of A365,000 or a part-time commitment of at least 30 hours per week, involves managing the UKGC9s strategy against illegal gambling. The position offers a hybrid working model but requires regular travel to Birmingham, including overnight stays. Importantly, the individual appointed will be prohibited from participating in the National Lottery.

The appointed leader will coordinate resources within the Operations Directorate, collaborating extensively with Enforcement and Intelligence teams. Close cooperation with the Illegal Markets unit, the Sports Betting Integrity team, as well as Legal, Policy, Strategy, and Communications departments is essential. The role reports directly to the Director of Enforcement and Intelligence.

This senior role is highly visible and involves frequent engagement with external stakeholders and heads of partner agencies, reflecting the UKGC9s commitment to strengthening regulation and fostering a healthier gambling environment.

Qualifications and Desired Attributes

The UKGC is seeking a candidate with proven leadership capabilities and comprehensive technical expertise. Experience collaborating with legal professionals and a strategic mindset for evaluating the effects of various initiatives are key criteria.

Additional preferred qualifications include certifications like SIO, CPIA, PACE, or POCA, alongside experience with covert operations and efforts to disrupt illegal gambling markets. A solid understanding of the gaming sector further enhances a candidate9s suitability.
