Maryland Casinos’ Revenue Growth in April 2026

Maryland’s six casinos collectively earned a total of $172.2 million from slot machines and table games during April 2026. This figure marks a 5.9% increase compared to April 2025 and represents the strongest monthly performance in the fiscal year so far.

Revenue Trends and State Contributions

Despite the strong showing in April, overall casino revenue for the first ten months of Fiscal Year 2026 reached $1.6 billion, which is a 1.4% decline compared to the same period in the previous year. Additionally, contributions to the state also experienced a slight reduction.

State contributions amounted to $72.5 million, with $52.3 million earmarked for the Education Trust Fund. Both of these figures increased compared to last year. Besides supporting education, the revenue generated by casinos also benefits local communities, the horse racing industry, as well as businesses owned by small, minority, and women entrepreneurs across Maryland.

Performance of Individual Casinos

MGM National Harbor led the revenue charts, generating nearly $74 million in April — a 7.8% rise over the previous year. With close to 2,300 slot machines and over 200 table games, its strong results were expected.

Following closely, Live! Casino & Hotel reported revenue just above $63 million, showing a 7.4% increase from April 2025. Together, MGM National Harbor and Live! Casino & Hotel accounted for the majority of Maryland’s casino revenue last month.

The Horseshoe Casino earned just over $15 million but experienced a slight decline of 3% compared to April of the previous year. Hollywood Casino and Ocean Downs Casino each brought in around $7.5 million; however, Hollywood Casino’s revenue dropped by 4.7%, while Ocean Downs saw a 5.5% increase compared to last April.

Rounding out the list, Rocky Gap Casino revenue rose by 7.1%, reaching nearly $4.5 million.

Development of the Gambling Industry in Maryland

Currently, Maryland hosts six licensed casinos alongside legal sports betting options, including mobile platforms. In November 2008, voters passed a constitutional amendment allowing slot machines at five locations statewide. Four years later, in November 2012, voters approved an expansion permitting table games in all casinos, 24-hour operations, and the opening of a sixth casino in Prince George’s County.

The state’s six casinos opened between September 2010 and December 2016. These establishments were licensed by the Video Lottery Facility Location Commission, created in 2009 to oversee casino locations and operators. Sports betting was legalized in 2020, with mobile sports betting launching in 2022.

Despite these advances, real-money online casinos remain prohibited in Maryland, despite multiple efforts to legalize them. Additionally, sweepstakes casinos have recently come under legislative scrutiny, with proposals aiming to ban forms of gambling classified as illegal by some lawmakers.
