Island Resort & Casino Enhances Entertainment with New Golf Course
Island Resort & Casino, located in Michigan, is set to broaden its entertainment options by introducing a new golf course. This addition will complement the property’s two existing 18-hole golf courses, reinforcing the resort’s reputation as a premier destination for both gaming and golf enthusiasts.
Existing Courses on the Property
The resort in Harris currently features two noteworthy golf courses. One of these, the Sweetgrass Course, is ranked among Michigan’s top ten public-access golf courses. The second, Sage Run, also offers a challenging and enjoyable experience for golfers, maintaining a high standard alongside Sweetgrass.
The upcoming third course, named the Cedar Course or Kishki — a term meaning “cedar” in the Potawatomi language — will be designed by Paul Albanese, who also crafted the resort’s existing courses.
It is important to mention that Island Resort & Casino is owned and operated by the Hannahville Indian Community, a federally recognized Potawatomi Tribe.
Opening Plans and Design Inspiration for the Cedar Course
The Cedar Course aims to strike a balance in terrain, offering a landscape that is less steep than Sage Run but more varied than Sweetgrass. Its design draws inspiration from the Golden Age of golf architecture and includes creative variations on classic hole designs.
Furthermore, the course will incorporate elements reminiscent of renowned courses like the National Golf Links in New York and Prestwick in Scotland. The goal is to create a golf experience that is both enjoyable and strategically engaging, rewarding players for their skills.
While the official opening is scheduled for 2027, select preview rounds will be available later this year.
Significance of the New Course for the Resort’s Growth
Leadership at Island Resort & Casino has expressed enthusiasm about this new addition. General Manager Tony Mancilla highlighted that the Cedar Course is a response to growing interest in golf among visitors, describing it as an important enhancement to the resort’s offerings that will better serve their guests.
Designer Paul Albanese also shared his excitement, suggesting that the Cedar Course might be his favorite project among those he has completed for the resort.
