Interpol has issued a Red Notice for Charlie “Atong” Ang, a gambling entrepreneur wanted by authorities in the Philippines. This move is part of a coordinated international effort to locate and apprehend him.

Global Police Effort to Capture Atong Ang

Philippine Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has confirmed the issuance of the Red Notice, which alerts law enforcement agencies worldwide to be on the lookout for Ang. The Philippine National Police requested this international alert after courts in the Philippines issued arrest warrants for Ang on serious charges.

Ang faces accusations linked to the disappearance of at least 34 individuals connected to the cockfighting industry, known locally as “sabungeros.” These men vanished across multiple provinces between 2021 and 2022, with charges against suspects including kidnapping, murder, and unlawful detention. This case remains one of the most high-profile unsolved mysteries in the country.

Despite intensified efforts, authorities have struggled to locate Ang. Reports indicate he was spotted in the Calabarzon region approximately two weeks ago, but police arrived too late to capture him. Investigators believe he has been frequently moving with only a small number of associates to evade arrest.

There were initial concerns that Ang might flee the country through unofficial channels, prompting early international cooperation. However, officials now believe he is still within the Philippines.

Families Demand Justice as the Search Widens

While the Red Notice is not an international warrant, it plays a crucial role in notifying global authorities. It significantly increases the chances of Ang being detained if he attempts to cross international borders.

The case has drawn considerable public attention due to its scale and the serious nature of the allegations. Some witness accounts suggest that the victims may have been targeted over suspicions of fixing cockfighting results, although this aspect remains under investigation. Additionally, claims from a whistleblower allege involvement by other individuals, including some in law enforcement, but these assertions have yet to be substantiated.

Ang has consistently denied all allegations, with his legal team asserting that the charges are baseless. Nonetheless, the issuance of the Interpol Red Notice marks a significant escalation, expanding the pursuit beyond national borders.

Amid the ongoing manhunt, the families of the missing individuals continue to pressure authorities for answers. The investigation remains focused on uncovering the truth behind the disappearances, with officials vowing to thoroughly pursue all leads until those responsible are brought to justice.
