Google has announced upcoming changes to its policies surrounding gambling advertisements to enhance user protection and promote healthier online practices. These revisions include tougher requirements for advertisers and increased penalties for those who breach the rules.

Overview of the Updated Gambling Ad Certification

Starting September 14, 2026, Google will update its Ads Gambling and Games policy. This update aligns with certification criteria introduced earlier, requiring advertisers in this sector to maintain a “good policy health” to qualify for promotion rights on Google’s platforms.

Operators who fail to provide adequate player protections will be prohibited from advertising gambling services through Google. Additionally, accounts managed under Manager Accounts (MCCs) with multiple certificate revocations or recurrent policy violations will be barred from obtaining new gambling certificates.

In severe cases, advertisers may also lose their current certifications, effectively ending their ability to promote gambling-related content on Google.

Restrictions on Certification Eligibility

Google has clarified that websites hosted on free subdomains cannot receive certification for gambling advertisements. Furthermore, domains that aren’t directly linked to gambling activities will not be eligible for certification.

Only domains that are fully owned and controlled by the gambling operator seeking certification will qualify for promotion under these updated rules.

The Certification section of Google’s Gambling and Games policy will be revised to reflect these changes when the new policy becomes effective in September 2026.
