Google Strengthens Measures Against Illegal Gambling Advertisements

Google has escalated its efforts to combat the widespread issue of unauthorized gambling advertisements. These ads are frequently linked to unregulated gambling sites that target consumers without legal permission.

Massive Removal of Gambling and Gaming Ads in 2025

In 2025 alone, Google has blocked or taken down approximately 270.7 million gambling and gaming ads. The company credits advanced Gemini-powered technology for enhancing its ability to identify and eliminate ads that violate policies, including those using sophisticated evasion tactics.

Targeting Unlicensed Operators and Vulnerable Audiences

Google also acted against 9.7 million web pages that offered paid online gambling services in breach of its policies. Gambling emerged as a leading category for policy violations. Key issues included sites promoting unlicensed operators, presenting deceptive offers, or deliberately reaching restricted audiences. This includes targeting vulnerable groups like self-excluded gamblers, encouraging them to continue gambling on offshore platforms.

Zero Tolerance and Ongoing Policy Enhancements

Maintaining a strict zero-tolerance stance, Google continuously updates its ad policies, paying close attention to how gambling ads are managed. Earlier this year, the company introduced comprehensive changes to tighten the rules governing gambling ad displays as well as the eligibility criteria for websites and publishers.
