Golden Nugget Atlantic City Announces Change in Leadership

Leadership Transition at Golden Nugget Atlantic City
Golden Nugget Atlantic City is undergoing a significant leadership change after one of the longest management periods in the city’s recent casino history. Tom Pohlman, who has led the casino for 15 years, will step down from his role on May 1. His operational responsibilities will be passed on to Kevin Scull, his trusted deputy who has worked closely alongside him for many years.
A Legacy of Unique Branding and Customer Focus
Tom Pohlman’s tenure began in 2011 when Landry’s Inc., led by Tilman Fertitta, purchased the former Trump Marina and aimed to reinvent the property. Pohlman was tasked with overseeing this transition and quickly demonstrated his capability, becoming a steady figure in an otherwise volatile market.
Throughout his leadership, Pohlman prioritized practical and customer-centered decisions that shaped Golden Nugget’s distinct identity. For example, when the casino introduced paid parking in early 2024, which was met with public disapproval, Pohlman swiftly reversed the decision to remove parking fees, setting the casino apart from competitors.
He also emphasized enhancing guest experiences through popular promotions and amenities such as a renowned seafood buffet and adaptable dining options. During renovation projects, Pohlman even engaged guests by providing them with novelty hard hats to watch the progress firsthand, helping to maintain interest despite temporary disruptions.
“Leading the dedicated team at Golden Nugget for the past 15 years and creating memorable moments for our guests has been a true honor,” Pohlman expressed.
Facing New Challenges Ahead
Golden Nugget has built a strong reputation on familiarity and excellent service, earning the loyalty of many returning visitors. Financially, the casino has also performed strongly, showing notable revenue growth in 2025 despite the uneven post-pandemic recovery seen in Atlantic City.
As Pohlman exits with a successful record, Kevin Scull faces the challenge of upholding this legacy amid evolving customer preferences and increasing competition. His long experience at Golden Nugget suggests continuity as the property navigates a complex and competitive marketplace.
Industry discussions about expanding casino gaming in northern New Jersey pose additional concerns for Atlantic City operators due to potential added competition. Nevertheless, the fundamental qualities that contributed to Golden Nugget’s achievements are expected to remain. The key moving forward will be balancing innovation with stability to continue the venue’s impressive progress.
