FBI Seeks Public Assistance to Identify Men Involved in Rapper Offset Shooting Incident

FBI Requests Help Identifying Suspects in Shooting of Rapper Offset
The FBI is reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying individuals connected to the shooting of the rapper Offset that occurred on April 6 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The agency has made public several photos of those believed to be involved in the crime.
Details of the Shooting Incident and Suspect Information
Offset, whose birth name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot outside the casino. During the attack, one of the assailants fired a single bullet that struck him in the leg. After the shooting, the suspects attempted to steal Offset’s watch, but the robbery was unsuccessful. The rapper was transported to a hospital, where he received treatment for non-life-threatening wounds and was discharged four days later.
Authorities have reported that the suspects fled the scene in two Chevrolet SUVs—a matte gray Tahoe and a black Suburban. Surveillance footage and witness accounts suggest the Suburban headed north toward Hollywood, while the Tahoe moved south in the direction of Miami.
In an interesting development, Seminole Police apprehended rapper Lil Tjay, whose real name is Tione Jayden Merritt, shortly after the shooting. While he was initially considered a suspect, it was later clarified that he was not involved in the shooting. Instead, Lil Tjay was taken into custody on unrelated charges such as disorderly conduct and driving without a valid license.
The investigation is a collaborative effort involving the Seminole Police Department, the FBI’s South Florida Violent Crime and Fugitive Task Force, and the FBI’s Miami field office. Since the Hard Rock casino is on Seminole tribal land, which is federally recognized, the case falls under federal jurisdiction.
The FBI encourages anyone with information about the attack to contact them at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips online for further assistance.
Offset Speaks on His Recovery and Life After the Shooting
Offset was discharged from the hospital on April 10 and took to social media to update fans on his progress. He conveyed that he was recovering well and was determined to continue improving. He expressed his focus on family, health recovery, and returning to his music career. Offset also reflected philosophically on life’s mix of quiet victories and loud defeats.
Raised in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Offset is known for being part of the rap group Migos alongside Quavo and Takeoff. He shares three children with rapper Cardi B, who filed for divorce in 2024, and he has three other children as well.
Many details remain unclear about the motives behind the shooting. Given Offset’s public profile, there has been speculation about possible underlying reasons, including rumors of a gambling addiction. However, Offset has not publicly addressed these claims.
