Former MGM Grand Detroit Security Officer Sues Casino Over Discrimination and Unfair Dismissal

Discrimination and Harassment Allegations at MGM Grand Detroit
A former security officer at MGM Grand Detroit has filed a lawsuit against the casino, alleging discrimination and unfair treatment linked to his disabilities. The officer claims he was unjustly terminated after an investigation that failed to accommodate his needs.
Mockery and Bullying Due to Disabilities
Donald Hall III, who worked for many years as a security officer at MGM Grand Detroit, alleges that he was repeatedly mocked by coworkers and supervisors because of his cerebral palsy and speech difficulties. According to Hall, both colleagues and management questioned his capability to perform his duties because of his disabilities.
Hall, who also lives with epilepsy, stated that the company was aware of his conditions from the start of his employment. Despite these challenges, he maintained strong job performance and received positive evaluations throughout his tenure.
Despite his dedication and proven abilities, Hall faced ongoing ridicule, sometimes publicly in front of other staff members. Although he had raised concerns about this behavior earlier, casino management discouraged him from filing formal complaints.
Unfair Suspension and Termination
The situation escalated in 2023 when an assistant security manager reportedly called Hall a “disease.” After Hall reported this offensive remark, he faced allegations of harassment himself. He was suspended without being informed of the specific accusations against him. During the subsequent inquiry, his requests for reasonable workplace accommodations were denied, and ultimately, he was terminated based on the unproven harassment allegations.
Adding to his distress, the casino circulated his photo around the property, warning employees to deny him entry, even before the investigation concluded.
In his lawsuit, Hall insists he never harassed anyone and believes the accusations were a pretext to remove him. He is pursuing compensation including back pay, reinstatement or front pay, legal fees, as well as both compensatory and punitive damages.
