The Cosmopolitan Secures New Labor Agreement with Unionized Staff

IUOE Local 501 Approves Multi-Year Labor Agreement
The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, a prominent casino located on the Strip, recently reached a new agreement with its unionized workforce. This development was officially announced by the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 501, which proudly marked the successful negotiation.
More than 100 union members at The Cosmopolitan hotel-casino voted to approve the new, multi-year labor contract. The agreement brings various enhancements and protections for the employees working at the casino.
Key Benefits Included in the New Contract
The labor deal encompasses several significant benefits. These include wage increases, additional pay for overtime, contributions from the employer to the IUOE’s pension, healthcare, and training funds. Workers may also receive annual bonuses tied to licensing and certification achievements, a supplementary retirement annuity, and shift premiums for swing and night shifts. These improvements aim to support worker welfare comprehensively.
This contract represents the second union agreement reached between IUOE Local 501 and The Cosmopolitan, reflecting an ongoing commitment to strengthening workers’ rights and benefits.
Union Leaders Praise Workers’ Unity and Efforts
Jose Soto, director of organizing for Local 501, highlighted that the deal was secured through the unity of the workers. He emphasized the importance of solidarity in achieving a contract that aligns The Cosmopolitan with the standards found at other major Strip properties.
“By sticking together as a union, our bargaining team was able to win a contract that brought the property in alignment with the standards established with other strip properties.”
