Casino Cheating Case Concludes with Time Served Sentence

Jeremiah Villegas Sentenced After Plea Deal in Casino Slot Machine Manipulation Case
Jeremiah Villegas, 33, has been sentenced following a plea agreement in a case involving manipulation of slot machines at Northern Quest Resort & Casino. This rare gambling-related prosecution concluded with Villegas receiving credit for time already served, effectively ending the case.
Details of the Case and Court Proceedings
At Spokane County Superior Court, Villegas pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gambling offense and a felony burglary charge. The burglary charge arose because he had repeatedly entered the casino despite being banned for an extended period. His attorney confirmed that Villegas accepted responsibility and chose not to dispute the charges during court proceedings. Villegas did not make a statement when given the opportunity to address the court.
Investigators believe Villegas used a concealed vibrating device to manipulate coin-operated slot machines by pressing on their sides, causing coins to drop and enabling bonus features. Surveillance video allegedly captured him inserting money into machines and applying pressure while hiding his hands. However, no physical device was found by authorities during their investigation.
Uncommon Nature and Outcome of the Case
This case attracted attention due to its unusual nature and the infrequency of cheating-related prosecutions in the area. Local prosecutors report only a few similar cases over recent years. Initially facing multiple charges for cheating and unlawful entry, Villegas ultimately agreed to have these consolidated under the plea deal, which reduced his potential penalties.
Due to his status as a first-time offender, Villegas was eligible for a lighter sentence on the felony charge. Additionally, he had previous legal issues and was detained again for allegedly violating release conditions related to this case. He also resolved a separate theft case, and the sentences for both matters have been served.
