The Health Bureau reported that the dengue case was confirmed following communication from mainland China, which indicated the infected individual had recently traveled to Macau and stayed at the Wynn Macau resort. In response, the bureau has partnered with Wynn Macau’s management to carry out focused mosquito control activities within a 100-meter radius of the visitor’s accommodation. This range corresponds to the typical flight distance of the Aedes mosquito, the vector responsible for transmitting dengue.
These control efforts concentrate on eliminating mosquito breeding grounds and reducing the potential for new infections. Regular inspections, removal of stagnant water, and the application of insecticides where necessary are key parts of the operation, particularly as warmer weather increases mosquito activity.
