Texas Tribe Advances Plans for Expansive Casino Resort
The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe is progressing with ambitious plans to expand its gaming operations by developing a large-scale casino resort in Leggett, Texas. This project marks a major growth from their current facility and aims to become a leading hospitality destination in the region.
Naskila Resort to Offer a Premier Casino Experience in East Texas
The upcoming Naskila Resort and Casino will span approximately 685,000 square feet on 95 acres of tribal land. The resort will feature a hotel with more than 350 rooms, multiple dining options, a resort-style swimming pool, and a spacious event center designed for conferences and large gatherings. This new development will dwarf the existing Naskila Casino, which has been in operation since 2016 with a relatively small gaming area.
Tribal leadership emphasizes that the resort will provide an upscale experience comparable to well-known gaming destinations across the United States. A design firm with experience on prestigious casino projects, including Foxwoods Casino Resort, is leading the architectural work. The interior design will honor the tribe’s heritage, incorporating themes centered on endurance and unity.
Economic Growth and Employment Through the New Casino Project
This expansion follows significant legal victories affirming the tribe’s gaming rights in Texas. Notably, a 2022 Supreme Court ruling clarified that the state could not impose certain restrictions on tribal gaming activities on reservation lands, enabling the tribe to confidently pursue long-term development plans.
Despite the resort’s size, gaming offerings will remain subject to federal regulations. The venue will continue to offer electronic bingo machines, which resemble slot machines but differ in design and classification. Traditional table games and standard slot machines will not be available due to legal constraints.
Construction will proceed in phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by late 2028. The initial opening will include the hotel tower, expanded gaming space, and event facilities. In the interim, the tribe plans to open a temporary gaming venue near the construction site by summer. This venue will operate 24/7 with several hundred machines and basic food and beverage options.
The resort project is also anticipated to stimulate the local economy by creating numerous jobs and increasing wage opportunities. Officials are optimistic that the new destination will attract visitors from across Texas and beyond, providing a substantial economic boost to the area.
