These guidelines form part of the new Online Casino Gambling Act 2026 and establish the foundational framework for the regulation of the country’s gambling market.
Consumer Protection and Harm Minimization
The new rules emphasize strong consumer protection standards and include regulations on advertising, licensing criteria for online casino operators, operators’ responsibilities, and clear tax guidelines. Online casinos will face rigorous requirements aimed at safeguarding players and reducing gambling-related harm.
Players will have the ability to set limits on various aspects of their gambling activity, including daily, weekly, and monthly restrictions on spending, deposits, and time spent playing. Operators are required to provide these limit-setting options during player registration and prompt users at least once a month to consider adjusting their limits to maintain responsible gambling habits.
Requests to remove or increase these limits must be submitted with a 24-hour notice period, ensuring that restrictions cannot be lifted immediately. Casinos must also evaluate each player’s behavior to identify any signs of gambling harm responsibly.
Furthermore, operators must enforce a mandatory five-minute break every hour of continuous play. These pauses can be extended to time-outs ranging from 24 hours up to three months, with players also empowered to self-exclude from gambling for set periods or indefinitely.
Stringent Know Your Customer (KYC) measures are enforced, requiring accounts to be verified as belonging to individuals aged 18 or over before deposits are allowed.
Advertising Restrictions and Player Protections
Account verification also includes cross-checking self-exclusion lists to prevent access to individuals who have opted out of gambling. Notably, the use of credit cards is prohibited, including indirect payments made through third-party methods funded by credit cards.
