Background of the Settlement

Evolution announced that it has reached a settlement with the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) amounting to £4.75 million (approximately $6.38 million). This agreement follows a license review initiated by the UKGC in 2024, reflecting Evolution’s commitment to doing the right thing in adherence to regulatory standards.

Unlicensed Platform Concerns

The investigation began in December 2024 when the UKGC found that Evolution’s gaming content was available on six websites operated by two companies that were not licensed to offer these products to players in the UK. Since UK regulations forbid regulated suppliers from distributing content to unlicensed operators, the commission launched the review.

Over the 18 months since the review started, UKGC did not find widespread unauthorized access to Evolution’s games across the UK market. Evolution cooperated fully with the regulator and took swift action to terminate its agreements with the two operators involved once the breach was uncovered.

Additionally, the company has been actively enhancing its technical and legal safeguards to prevent its content from appearing on unregulated sites and reiterated its ongoing investment in advanced compliance measures.

Evolution’s Commitment to Compliance

Martin Carlesund, CEO of Evolution, expressed disappointment that the company’s products appeared on unlicensed sites but highlighted the team’s dedication to addressing such issues promptly. He reaffirmed that Evolution does not seek traffic from unlicensed operators and remains focused on providing its leading games exclusively through licensed UK operators.

Additional Legal Context

Separately, Evolution faced a legal setback when a court blocked its attempt to include Playtech as a defendant in a notable defamation case connected to a damaging report affecting Playtech’s reputation.
