Gase was the first to be interviewed for the Cleveland Browns head coach position after former coach Mike Pettine and General Manager Ray Farmer were recently fired.

Gase was the NFL's hottest head coaching candidate among assistants, and the Dolphins announced his hiring Saturday. Along with interviewing for the Browns, he also interviewed with the Eagles and Giants, and had been considered the front-runner for the Dolphins job.

At 37, Gase becomes the league's young coach. He has no head coaching experience but has been a target of NFL head coaching searches for at least three years.

A year ago Gase followed coach John Fox from Denver to Chicago after interviewing for head jobs with the Bears, 49ers, Bills and Falcons.
