Wynn Resorts Experiences Significant Cyberattack

Wynn Resorts, a leading name in the gaming industry, recently fell victim to a cyberattack that led to the exposure of approximately 800,000 internal records. This breach has prompted concerns among customers over the security of their personal data, resulting in legal actions against the company for allegedly failing to protect sensitive information adequately.

Employee Data Compromised in the Breach

The cyberattack targeted Wynn Resorts’ internal systems, compromising thousands of employee records. The incident has been linked to the ransomware group known as ShinyHunters, which reportedly demanded a ransom in exchange for withholding the stolen data. While Wynn Resorts confirmed the attack, it has not provided details about whether it will comply with the ransom demands.

Although the initial breach primarily involved employee information, customers have voiced serious worries about their own personal data’s safety. This unease has led to multiple class action lawsuits against Wynn Resorts, alleging negligence in safeguarding consumer information.

Multiple Lawsuits Filed Against Wynn Resorts

Following the breach, a class action lawsuit was initiated in the US District Court for Nevada, accusing Wynn Resorts of failing to encrypt customer data effectively and protect it from such attacks. Since then, two additional lawsuits with similar claims have been filed, highlighting ongoing concerns about the company’s data security practices.

The most recent lawsuits, brought forward by the law firm Stranch, Jennings & Garvey, accuse Wynn Resorts of various legal violations including negligence, unjust enrichment, invasion of privacy, breach of fiduciary duties, and breaking implied contracts. The firm argues that Wynn had adequate resources to implement necessary security measures but neglected to do so, which led to the release of sensitive private information.

Currently, the legal representatives are pursuing a declaratory judgment to hold Wynn Resorts accountable for the breach and its aftermath.
