Virginia Prepares for the Launch of Live! Casino Virginia

Introduction to Live! Casino Virginia
Virginia is set to welcome its fifth commercial casino with the upcoming opening of Live! Casino Virginia. This new entertainment venue is scheduled to open on January 22, offering visitors an exciting gaming experience in the state.
Temporary Casino Opening and Features
Live! Casino Virginia will begin operations with a temporary gaming facility located in Petersburg. This initial setup will allow guests to enjoy a preview of the casino atmosphere while construction continues on the permanent site. The temporary casino covers an expansive 75,000 square feet and includes nearly 1,000 slot machines alongside 32 table games. Additionally, it features a high-roller room where players can compete for substantial progressive jackpots.
The facility also offers dining options through Lucky’s Kitchen, providing guests with a convenient place to eat during their visit. Visitors can take advantage of free parking, making access to the casino hassle-free.
Economic Impact and Future Developments
So far, the launch of Live! Casino Virginia has created around 500 jobs, highlighting its role as an important economic contributor. The company behind the operation, the Cordish Companies, anticipates completing the permanent casino complex by the end of 2028. This future development will include a hotel and several dining establishments adjoining the gaming floor, promising an enhanced resort experience.
Community Contributions and Local Support
To mark its opening, Live! Casino Virginia will host a ribbon-cutting event attended by city dignitaries. During this event, the casino will demonstrate its commitment to the local community by donating $15 million to city officials as part of its support for Petersburg’s development.
The Cordish Companies also operate other Live! branded casinos in cities such as Hanover, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Bossier City. The Petersburg casino represents Virginia’s fifth commercial casino, following the approval of legalized gaming by the state’s General Assembly in 2020. While initially considered for Richmond, local opposition led to Petersburg becoming the site of this newest casino.
Ongoing Discussions on Gaming Expansion
Alongside the physical casino expansion, Virginia lawmakers continue to explore the possibility of legalizing online casino gaming. This ongoing debate indicates the state’s interest in broadening gaming options for residents and visitors alike.
