Underdog to End Sportsbook Services in North Carolina

Underdog, a known operator in sports betting and daily fantasy sports, has announced its plan to discontinue its sportsbook services in North Carolina. Despite this change, users will still have access to the company’s fantasy sports platform.

Closure Timeline and Wager Settlement

The sportsbook will stop accepting bets on December 16, 2025, with the complete shutdown occurring the following day. On the last day of betting, Underdog will clear all outstanding wagers, including any unresolved futures bets, which will be paid out regardless of their outcomes.

Reasons for Withdrawal from North Carolina Sports Betting Market

This decision comes as smaller sportsbooks continue to face challenges in gaining market traction in North Carolina, alongside increasing regulatory hurdles. North Carolina is currently the only state where Underdog offers sports betting. With this exit, Underdog will refocus solely on its fantasy sports offerings.

Continued Availability of Fantasy Sports Platform

Players can still enjoy Underdog’s fantasy sports products without interruption. The company utilizes a single app for both sports betting and fantasy sports, allowing users to keep using the platform with their existing accounts seamlessly.

Strategic Focus on Fantasy Sports

By concentrating on fantasy sports, Underdog aims to sidestep the complexities and costs associated with sports betting regulations. This move also helps the company avoid intense competition with major sportsbooks like DraftKings and FanDuel, which dominate the market.

Exploration of Prediction Markets

Although Underdog is withdrawing from sports betting, it remains committed to growth and innovation. The company has shown interest in expanding into the event contracts and prediction markets sector, an area that continues to face regulatory challenges.

Partnership with Crypto.com Derivatives

To support its exploration into prediction markets, Underdog has partnered with Crypto.com Derivatives North America (CDNA), a company registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), to strengthen its position in this emerging space.
