UKGC Suspends Spribe’s License Over Hosting Regulation Breaches

UK Gambling Commission Suspends Spribe’s Operating License
The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has announced the immediate suspension of Spribe OÜ’s operating license, citing violations related to hosting regulations. This regulatory action highlights the UKGC’s enforcement of compliance within the gambling industry.
Reasons Behind the Suspension
Spribe, which obtained its UK gambling license in 2020, is currently undergoing a review by the UKGC. The suspension is part of this ongoing investigation that raises concerns about the provider’s adherence to licensing requirements. Specifically, the UKGC is examining Spribe’s compliance with the hosting provisions outlined in the UK licensing framework under section 118(2) of the Gambling Act 2005.
In this context, “hosting” refers to a situation where a gaming provider offers its games through its own servers, allowing client operators’ customers to access these games remotely. The alleged failure to meet these hosting obligations prompted the UKGC to take decisive action.
Requirements for Spribe Moving Forward
The UKGC has informed Spribe that all hosting activities must cease immediately unless the company secures the appropriate hosting license. This stop order ensures that no gambling facilities are provided unlawfully, in accordance with Section 33 of the Gambling Act 2005, which explicitly prohibits operating without a valid UKGC license.
Regulator’s Commitment to Compliance
The UKGC has underscored its dedication to maintaining strict compliance standards across the gambling sector and its readiness to act against unlicensed operations. As part of the suspension, Spribe is also required to notify all affected clients about any disruptions stemming from this regulatory decision.
