Incident at Former Delano Hotel Leads to Lawsuit

Las Vegas, a city renowned for its hospitality, was the setting of a troubling incident involving two tourists at the property formerly known as Delano, now rebranded as W Las Vegas. On November 10, 2024, visitors Andriana Thomopolous and Rania Kassab experienced what they describe as unlawful detention by hotel security, an event that has now prompted them to file a lawsuit.

Details of the Altercation and Detainment

The incident began when Thomopolous accidentally bumped into another guest in a common area of the resort. This led to a heated verbal exchange, during which the other party threw a drink at both Thomopolous and Kassab. When the tourists attempted to bring the situation to the attention of security personnel, they were themselves taken into custody rather than the aggressor being addressed.

According to the lawsuit, the two women were held in a security cell for approximately four hours without any explanation or communication regarding the reason for their detainment. They were also separated from their spouses during this time, heightening their distress.

Allegations and Claims in the Lawsuit

The lawsuit accuses the hotel, operated by MGM Resorts International, of false imprisonment and the intentional infliction of emotional distress. It also claims negligence in the aspects of hiring, training, and retaining security staff. During their detention, Thomopolous and Kassab were subjected to pat-down searches and reportedly faced verbal reprimands when seeking updates about their situation.

Upon release, security acknowledged that the two tourists were not responsible for causing the incident. Despite this, the plaintiffs argue that if they had been involved in such an incident, they would have been issued trespass notices barring their return to the property.

Compensation Sought by the Plaintiffs

The lawsuit requests compensation exceeding $15,000 each in general and special damages, along with coverage for attorneys’ fees, court costs, and exemplary damages. The plaintiffs seek justice and acknowledgment of the wrongful treatment they endured during their stay at the resort.
