Collaboration to Support Responsible Gambling

The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA), which brought together eight major online gaming operators in the United States in 2024, has formed a significant partnership with BetBlocker, a charity based in Delaware. This collaboration aims to provide more American gamblers with free resources to help them maintain control over their gaming habits.

Empowering Individuals with Effective Tools

ROGA, representing 90% of the legal sports betting market in the U.S., highlights this partnership as a vital step forward in promoting responsible gambling across the nation.

BetBlocker offers a unique software solution enabling users to self-exclude from access to over 118,000 gambling websites and 1,500 apps within minutes. This extensive coverage includes both regulated and unregulated operators.

Dr. Jennifer Shatley, ROGA’s executive director, emphasizes the association’s mission to elevate standards by fostering collaboration, innovation, and relying on evidence-based approaches. She notes that increasing the visibility and accessibility of tools like BetBlocker provides practical support for individuals to make healthier gambling choices.

As part of this effort, ROGA has integrated BetBlocker prominently on its platforms and actively promotes the tool across all communication channels. It also ensures member organizations properly incorporate the service into their customer support systems.

Duncan Garvie, founder of BetBlocker, believes that the partnership will extend the reach of their free, anonymous tools to many people who wish to manage their gambling limits on their own terms.

Compatible with a wide variety of smart devices and operating systems, BetBlocker supports multiple languages and allows users to set block periods for any duration. An upcoming scheduling feature will enable users to time their self-exclusion for moments they anticipate to be particularly challenging.

Developing Advanced Self-Exclusion Capabilities

This partnership aligns with ROGA’s broader initiatives to provide flexible options for players seeking breaks from gambling.

ROGA is also working on a data clearinghouse designed to enable self-exclusion across all of its member companies. BetBlocker will complement this system by protecting users even on platforms outside of regulated markets.

Together, ROGA and BetBlocker strive to offer accessible, stigma-free, and cost-free help that respects the individual’s autonomy and timing.
