Rank Group Announces Chairman Alex Thursby Will Step Down in October

Leadership Change at Rank Group
The Rank Group, a prominent international gaming, leisure, and entertainment company, has revealed plans for a shift in its leadership. Alex Thursby, who currently serves as the chairman, will be leaving his position, and the company is actively searching for a new chairperson to take his place.
Thursby’s Departure After Six Years
On September 18, the Rank Group shared that Alex Thursby will resign from the board following nearly six years as the group’s chair. He initially joined the business as a non-executive director in August 2017, before stepping into the chairman role two years later.
This announcement came shortly after the company released its annual financial results. Thursby’s tenure is described as successful, with the company positioned strongly for continued sustainable growth in the years ahead.
Thursby is set to officially leave the company on October 15, coinciding with the conclusion of the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). While the search for a successor is underway and progressing positively, Karen Whitworth, the senior independent director, will temporarily assume the chairperson duties.
Additional interim appointments include Lucinda Charles-Jones taking on the role of interim senior independent director and Keith Laslop stepping in as interim chair of the audit committee.
CEO and Board Express Gratitude to Thursby
John O’Reilly, CEO of the Rank Group, expressed gratitude for Thursby’s dedicated leadership and significant impact on the company. He praised Thursby for his wise guidance, deep experience, and thoughtful stewardship.
O’Reilly acknowledged, “I personally thank him for his steadfast support and commitment to Rank Group and its stakeholders. Much of our recent achievements and optimistic outlook are thanks to his steady leadership and insightful counsel.”
Reflecting on his decision to step down, Thursby shared a sense of pride in the advancements made during his tenure, particularly in governance, and confidence in the company’s promising future.
He stated, “It has been an honor to serve as chair for nearly six years, guiding the company through important changes, including recent developments in the UK casino industry.”
Karen Whitworth also commented on the transition, commending Thursby’s valuable contributions and wishing him well. She affirmed her commitment to serving as Interim Chair after the AGM and anticipates announcing a permanent replacement shortly thereafter.
