Crackdown on Unlicensed Gambling in Sarasota County

Authorities in Sarasota County have taken action against an illegal gambling operation, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the confiscation of numerous slot machines. This enforcement followed a recent bust of a separate unauthorized gaming venue in the area.

Collaborative Raid on Spin 24/7 Illegal Gaming Den

A coordinated effort involving the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) Intelligence Unit, Tactical Unit, Special Investigations Section, Patrol Bureau, and the Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) led to the shutdown of an illegal gambling site known as Spin 24/7. The operation was the result of months-long investigations and was executed under a search warrant specifically targeting this unlicensed gaming establishment.

During the raid, authorities seized 66 slot machines along with an undisclosed sum of cash. Two suspects connected to the illegal operation were taken into custody.

Details of the Arrests

The two individuals arrested are Mohammed Belyaqout, detained at the gambling site on March 26, and Mabielka C. Cumbrera, who was apprehended at her home the following day. Both suspects were booked into the Sarasota County Correctional Facility.

Prior to the raid, Spin 24/7 had been issued a cease-and-desist notice but failed to halt its unlawful activities.

Sheriff Hoffman highlighted the commitment to cracking down on these operations, stating that illegal gambling organizers will face consequences for their crimes.

“We will continue our partnership with the FGCC to ensure these illegal gambling venues are held accountable and closed down.”

Earlier Enforcement Actions Against Illegal Gambling

Previously, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office collaborated with the FGCC in another operation that led to the arrest of five suspects aged between 26 and 44 years. This prior crackdown targeted a different unlicensed gambling site within the state.

Authorities confiscated unlawful gambling equipment, cash, and issued legal notices to business owners and operators implicated in the illicit activities.
