Suspected Shooter Quickly Apprehended After Incident at Ocean Casino Resort

On Saturday evening, law enforcement officials arrested a 55-year-old Atlantic City man shortly after a shooting took place at the Ocean Casino Resort’s multi-level parking structure. The suspect reportedly fired several shots at a 41-year-old patron before fleeing the scene.

Rapid Response Leads to Arrest Within 20 Minutes

Authorities tracked down Ronald Rivers two blocks away on South New Hampshire Avenue, where he surrendered peacefully without resistance. This prompt arrest highlighted the effective coordination between local police and the casino’s security and surveillance teams.

Officers reached the parking lot just after 9 p.m., providing immediate assistance to the victim and notifying other units in the area about the suspect. The firearm recovered from Rivers was later identified as stolen property originating from South Carolina.

Following his arrest, Rivers faced charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen weapon, and charges related to the use of the gun for illegal purposes.

Rivers Faces Serious Consequences After Previous Convictions

Ronald Rivers had previously served a 15-year prison sentence stemming from a 2015 conviction related to threatening a woman with a firearm. He was released in 2023 after authorities assessed he no longer posed an immediate threat.

The victim from this recent shooting remains in critical condition. If Rivers is found guilty, he could face life imprisonment. Even if acquitted of the shooting charge, his illegal possession of a stolen firearm breaches his parole terms, potentially resulting in additional incarceration.

Law enforcement officials have assured the public that this was an isolated event not connected to broader issues of gun violence in the area. Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have been motivated by an attempted robbery.
