Introduction to the Poker Palace Transition

The Poker Palace has long been a beloved fixture in North Las Vegas, serving the community for many decades. Now, new ownership under Truckee Gaming, a company from Reno, plans to purchase the casino, temporarily close it, and relaunch the establishment with a major renovation scheduled for 2026.

Closure and Renovation Plans Under New Ownership

The casino, originally opened in 1974 and operated by the Coleman family for over 50 years, is set to close its doors on October 1. This closure affects approximately 126 employees, mostly hourly workers who will lose their jobs, although certain management and salaried personnel are expected to transfer to other Truckee Gaming locations. Truckee Gaming, which already manages ten casinos throughout Nevada, views the acquisition as a key opportunity to expand their presence in the Las Vegas market.

The new owners presented their renovation plans to the Nevada Gaming Control Board, describing a comprehensive update that includes a redesigned exterior and interior, new flooring and ceilings, and improved alignment of the main entrance with the parking area. The casino floor will be expanded, restrooms will be upgraded, and additional office space will be added to better support staff operations.

Additionally, improvements to the dining facilities are planned. The kitchen will be expanded to accommodate a new fast-food restaurant with seating for 32 people. Truckee Gaming emphasized that the Poker Palace has seen limited upgrades in recent years, and the upcoming changes aim to revitalize the property and make it more appealing to local patrons.

Truckee Gaming’s First Investment in Las Vegas and Regulatory Process

Pete McHugh, Chief Operating Officer of Truckee Gaming, shared that the company intends to modernize the casino with new slot machines, enhanced systems, and overall better guest amenities. These upgrades are expected to attract more visitors and reinforce the company’s commitment to investing in both the property’s infrastructure and service quality.

The Nevada Gaming Control Board has approved Truckee Gaming’s limited license, and the Nevada Gaming Commission will review the purchase next. Upon completing renovations, Truckee Gaming will seek final licensing approval before reopening Poker Palace in mid-2026.

This marks Truckee Gaming’s inaugural direct investment in the Las Vegas area, reflecting confidence in the North Las Vegas market. Despite challenges faced by the Las Vegas Strip in recent times, casino revenues in North Las Vegas have experienced slight growth, underscoring the potential for rejuvenation and growth at the historic Poker Palace site.
