Introduction to the New Mini Sphere Project

Sphere Entertainment has unveiled plans to build a smaller iteration of the famous Las Vegas Sphere. This new venue is the result of a collaboration between the state of Maryland, Prince George’s County, and Peterson Companies, all working together to bring this concept to life.

Location and Scale of the Mini Sphere

The upcoming mini Sphere will be situated at the National Harbor in Maryland, which is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Washington, DC. This new venue will be the first in a series of smaller Spheres, featuring 6,000 seats, significantly fewer than the original Las Vegas location’s approximately 18,000 seats.

Design and Features of the Mini Sphere

This smaller Sphere will replicate many of the cutting-edge features of its larger counterpart, including a reduced version of the Exosphere—an external LED display that showcases artistic and branded visuals. The Exosphere is known for being one of the world’s highest-resolution LED screens.

Inside, guests can expect immersive sound systems, 4D environmental effects, and a wrap-around 16K by 16K high-resolution screen similar to the one in Las Vegas, ensuring a captivating entertainment experience.

Economic and Community Impact

The project is currently seeking incentives with a funding goal of $200 million. Once completed, it is anticipated to generate over $1 billion in annual revenue for the region. Construction will create around 2,500 temporary jobs, while the operational phase is expected to support approximately 4,750 permanent positions.

According to announcements, this new Sphere aims to be a cultural and economic landmark for Maryland, providing significant benefits to the local community.

Project Approval and Timeline

As of now, the project is still awaiting several necessary approvals before construction can commence, so no specific timeline has been released regarding the start or completion dates.

Future Expansion Plans

Even before the Maryland mini Sphere receives final approval, plans for another full-scale Sphere have been announced. This venue is part of Sphere Entertainment’s international expansion strategy and will be established in Abu Dhabi, continuing their global footprint in innovative entertainment spaces.
