Robust Growth Continues in Ontario’s iGaming Sector

The online gambling market in Ontario remained vibrant throughout December, demonstrating its ongoing expansion. Recent data from the local market highlights a consistent surge in betting activity and revenue, underscoring the sector’s healthy performance in 2025.

December Market Highlights and Yearly Overview

According to the latest figures from Ontario’s gaming authorities, the total amount wagered by players in December alone reached approximately CAD 9.5 billion (around USD 7 billion), marking a 2% increase compared to the previous month. Over the entire year, the wagering volume climbed to nearly CAD 98.3 billion (approximately USD 72.5 billion), reflecting a significant 26% rise compared to the previous year.

Gross gaming revenue before adjustments was reported to be CAD 425.4 million (about USD 313.7 million) for December, which is a 5% year-over-year increase. For the full year, this figure surpassed CAD 4 billion (approximately USD 3 billion), indicating strong profitability in the market.

Player engagement remained substantial, with nearly 1.3 million active accounts recorded in December. This represents a slight 2% decrease in active accounts compared to the previous month, though it’s important to note that some players hold multiple accounts across different platforms. Notably, operators achieved an average revenue of CAD 334 (approximately USD 256.3) per player account in December, setting a new monthly record with a 7% rise from November.

Online Casino Dominates the Market

Breaking down the figures by gaming vertical, online casino emerged as the clear leader. Players wagered about CAD 8.27 billion (around USD 6.1 billion) in December on casino games, making it the most favored segment by far. The casino vertical generated a gross gaming revenue of CAD 320.5 million (approximately USD 236.4 million) for the month, which is an 8% increase over November.

Sports Betting Sees a Temporary Dip

In contrast, the sports betting sector experienced a slight slowdown. The total wagers placed amounted to CAD 1 billion (roughly USD 737.5 million), reflecting a 13% decrease from the previous month. Correspondingly, gross gaming revenue in this segment declined by 3% to CAD 99.1 million (about USD 73.1 million).

P2P Poker Shows Mixed Results

Peer-to-peer poker betting activity rose by 9% in December, with wagers totaling CAD 141 million (nearly USD 104 million). Despite this increase in betting volume, the gross gaming revenue for P2P poker fell by 7% to CAD 5.8 million (approximately USD 4.3 million).
