New National Helpline Simplifies Access to Gambling Help

The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) has launched a new nationwide helpline number, 1-800-MY-RESET, designed to make reaching out for gambling-related support easier and more memorable. This number connects individuals across the United States to professional assistance whenever they need help dealing with gambling concerns.

Enhanced Helpline to Reduce Stigma and Increase Treatment Access

The new helpline replaces NCPG’s previous main phone line as part of a broader initiative to modernize their support services. By adopting a straightforward and neutral hotline name, the organization aims to lessen the shame associated with seeking help and encourage both individuals experiencing gambling problems and their loved ones to reach out for support promptly.

When callers dial 1-800-MY-RESET, they are linked to the National Problem Gambling Helpline Network, which serves as a centralized system connecting to 24 authorized contact centers nationwide. These centers are staffed by trained professionals who deliver confidential, free services 24/7. Callers receive guidance and referrals to local treatment and recovery programs that adhere to globally recognized standards.

NCPG emphasizes that gambling-related harm varies widely and affects people differently. By providing an easy-to-remember helpline, they hope to eliminate barriers such as embarrassment or confusion that often prevent people from seeking help.

Expanding Support Amid Growing Gambling Opportunities

The introduction of this helpline comes at a time when gambling options like sports betting and online gaming continue to grow rapidly across the US. Research cited by NCPG estimates that approximately 20 million American adults encountered at least one sign of gambling-related harm in the past year. As legal gambling becomes more accessible, accessible prevention and treatment services are increasingly critical to public health.

Despite the new number being positioned as the primary national contact, the former helpline number 1-800-522-4700 will remain operational. However, the adoption and promotion of the new 1-800-MY-RESET hotline may differ by state due to varying regulations. NCPG is urging regulators and industry stakeholders to support and promote the unified helpline to ensure comprehensive access nationwide.

The launch also follows recent legal developments involving the former 1-800-GAMBLER hotline, which has reverted to the control of a New Jersey-based organization after a licensing dispute. This prompted NCPG to establish its own national, centralized contact line for better service and consistency.

Future Initiatives to Raise Awareness and Combat Gambling Stigma

Alongside the helpline introduction, NCPG plans to enhance public education campaigns through 2026 and 2027. These efforts will focus on increasing awareness of gambling harms, promoting early intervention, and tackling the stigma that often surrounds gambling addiction.

Founded as the sole national nonprofit dedicated to reducing gambling-related harm, NCPG remains neutral on gambling legality while advocating for stronger consumer protections and accessible support systems across the country.
