Nate Ravitz Leads theScore as Penn Shifts Strategy After Ending ESPN Bet Partnership

Experienced Leadership Takes theScore Forward
Penn Interactive has appointed Nate Ravitz, a veteran in sports media and former ESPN executive, to lead theScore as part of a strategic overhaul. This appointment comes as Penn refocuses its efforts on core areas after stepping away from its expensive ESPN Bet partnership.
Ravitz’s Role and Background
As head of theScore’s media division, Ravitz will oversee content creation, advertising sales, and audience engagement. TheScore app, known for delivering real-time sports scores, stats, and curated alerts, boasts around 4 million monthly active users and over 12 million followers across social platforms. It will work closely with Penn’s recently restructured mobile sportsbook, theScore Bet.
Ravitz brings 17 years of experience at ESPN, where he played a key role in digital operations. Serving as senior vice president of digital content and audience growth, he spearheaded initiatives in fantasy sports and sports betting, while managing audience development, revenue, and distribution across multiple platforms. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of digital content, with responsibility for ESPN’s website, mobile and connected TV apps, fantasy games, short-form global video, and user experience. His expertise spans editorial, video production, content curation, alerts, social media, and SEO.
Strategic Impact on Penn’s Future
Ravitz expressed admiration for theScore’s achievements in the competitive mobile sports app landscape and is eager to drive momentum within Penn’s digital portfolio. He highlighted his anticipation to collaborate again with Penn’s Chief Technology Officer Aaron LaBerge, a former ESPN colleague, and shared confidence in theScore’s potential for sustained growth.
“I’ve long admired what theScore has been able to build and achieve in the incredibly competitive landscape of mobile sports apps.”
Nate Ravitz, PENN Entertainment Chief Technology Officer
Over his career, Ravitz has led diverse editorial teams and managed more than 100 reporters and analysts, providing him with extensive leadership expertise. His proficiency in social media is expected to help theScore stay aligned with evolving industry trends.
Penn’s elevation of theScore signals a significant shift after the discontinuation of the ESPN Bet venture. Bringing in an experienced digital operations leader like Ravitz is set to strengthen Penn’s media capabilities and invigorate its sportsbook ambitions, while helping theScore carve out a unique presence in a highly competitive field.
