Daytime Casino Robbery Shocks Missouri

Last week, the Isle of Capri Casino in Missouri witnessed an unusual daylight robbery involving a significant theft. Authorities have apprehended a suspect connected to the incident, but another individual remains at large.

Role of an Inside Accomplice

The robbery was carefully planned and nearly executed without disruption. However, the attempted heist was interrupted by a casino patron who tried to stop the robbers, leading to one suspect’s arrest. Benjamin Michael-Dass Charles, a 21-year-old former security guard at the casino, was taken into custody. Meanwhile, his partner, 20-year-old Hollis C. Vanleer Jr., is still being sought by the Missouri State Highway Patrol for his involvement.

Details of the Heist

The crime occurred at 2:13 PM when two masked men armed with AR-15-style rifles entered the casino. They swiftly moved into the casino’s bank area, stealing nearly $1.3 million and placing the money into a duffel bag. The robbery took a violent turn when a patron confronted the robbers, resulting in a physical struggle before the suspects escaped.

The two fled using a 1998 Ford Taurus, which was later found abandoned. Inside the vehicle, authorities discovered a receipt linked to Charles, enabling investigators to identify and capture him.

Capture and Charges for the Security Guard

Charles was working on the day of the robbery, which was part of his plan to facilitate the crime. Investigations suggest he was the mastermind behind the operation. Evidence found in the abandoned car, including a weapon registered to Charles and explosive devices, further implicated him. The explosives were allegedly intended to create a diversion during the heist.

Charles admitted to moving the stolen money and weapons out of state. He now faces multiple charges such as first-degree robbery, first-degree assault, armed criminal action, possession of explosive devices, and tampering with evidence. Meanwhile, authorities continue their search for his accomplice, Hollis C. Vanleer Jr.
