Mirage Art Collection Auctioned Amid Transformation into Hard Rock Las Vegas
More than 300 sculptures and paintings that once adorned the iconic Mirage casino are now being offered for sale in an online auction. This event marks a significant moment as the property is being revamped into the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, complete with the new Guitar Hotel Las Vegas tower.
Hard Rock Launches Auction Featuring Mirage’s Artistic Legacy
Over the course of 30 days, bidders can participate in an online auction managed by Prime Auctioneers, based in Los Angeles, through the LiveAuctioneers platform. The collection highlights decades of the Mirage’s history, which originally opened under the vision of Steve Wynn in November 1989. The auction items include over 300 pieces of artwork and memorabilia displayed throughout the resort, from public spaces to backstage areas.
Joe Lupo, president of Hard Rock Las Vegas, highlighted the significance of The Mirage as a landmark destination celebrated for its extensive art installations. He emphasized the auction as a unique opportunity for collectors, fans of Las Vegas, former guests, and historians to acquire authentic artifacts from this legendary venue.
Among the standout pieces available are the bronze mermaid and brass dolphin statues, several works by renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly, and numerous items related to The Mirage’s famous volcano spectacle and the Siegfried & Roy show. It’s important to note that the Siegfried & Roy statue itself is not part of the auction, having been donated to the Neon Museum.
The Rebranding of The Mirage to Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
In 2022, Hard Rock International, headquartered in Florida, purchased The Mirage’s operations from MGM Resorts for $1.1 billion. The legendary resort officially closed on July 17, 2024, with demolition and interior renovations commencing immediately afterward.
Until the rebranding efforts began, the resort with 3,044 rooms continued to operate under its original name. The transformation involves a comprehensive renovation that will introduce a striking guitar-shaped hotel tower along Las Vegas Boulevard, significantly changing the city’s skyline and rejuvenating the property.
Jim Allen, chairman of Hard Rock International, warmly welcomed the 3,500 employees of The Mirage into the global Hard Rock family of 45,000 team members. He expressed enthusiasm about developing a top-tier integrated resort on the Las Vegas Strip, representing a proud addition to the city’s entertainment scene. The newly branded Hard Rock Las Vegas is scheduled to open in the latter half of 2027, featuring the iconic guitar tower on the former volcano site.
