Illegal gambling continues to be a growing concern in Michigan, with state regulators and law enforcement agencies actively pursuing underground gambling activities to enforce the law.

Operators Sentenced for Running Unauthorized Gambling Venue

In a recent case, two men, Samir Naim Musharbash and Naim Samir Musharbash, were apprehended for managing an illegal gambling establishment known as Spin to Win. The arrests took place in 2021, and the sentencing occurred on July 23, 2025.

Authorities confiscated 17 slot-style gaming machines along with several computer towers and monitors that were used to run internet-based slot games during the raid, according to official statements from the Michigan Gaming Control Board.

The operation also led to the seizure of nearly $8,000 in cash. This enforcement action demonstrates the strong commitment of the Michigan Gaming Control Board and law enforcement to dismantle unauthorized gambling activities and protect residents.

Following their arrest, the two men were sentenced by the Jackson County Circuit Court to two years of probation and 180 days in jail. However, the jail time was suspended by Circuit Judge John McBain, meaning they will avoid imprisonment if they comply with the law moving forward. Additionally, they were ordered to pay fines and court costs totaling $558.

Employee Receives Jail Time and Fines

An employee involved, Kyle Schrotenboer, was sentenced separately. After pleading guilty in March to operating a gambling house, he was sentenced in May to 90 days in jail. Schrotenboer must also pay $575 in fines, fees, and court costs.

The ongoing efforts of the Michigan Gaming Control Board highlight the importance of cooperation between regulatory bodies and law enforcement to address illegal gambling. Despite Michigan offering a wide variety of legal gaming options, underground gambling remains an issue requiring vigilance and enforcement.
