MGM Resorts International is demonstrating strong confidence in its upcoming casino project in Osaka, Japan. Company executives believe this new venue has the potential to stand toe-to-toe with some of Asia’s most renowned integrated resorts, including the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Leadership Insights on Osaka’s Strategic Advantage
At the JP Morgan Gaming, Lodging, Restaurant, and Leisure Management Access Forum, MGM’s top officials shared their optimistic outlook for the Osaka casino resort, which is currently under construction. They emphasized the strategic importance of the location, anticipating that it will attract both local residents and international tourists traveling to Japan.
MGM’s Chief Financial Officer, Jonathan Halkyard, remarked that the Osaka resort could become one of the largest and most prosperous integrated resorts globally, potentially on par with the Marina Bay Sands. He expressed satisfaction with the company’s investment in the project and suggested that it could yield substantial returns.
MGM’s CEO, Bill Hornbuckle, reinforced Halkyard’s perspective, highlighting key benefits such as MGM Osaka’s exclusive operational rights for the initial years. Hornbuckle is confident in the demand for the resort and believes it can emulate Marina Bay Sands’ success, potentially generating up to $2 billion in cash flow. Additionally, he pointed out Osaka’s geographic advantage, being closer to major Chinese cities like Shanghai and Beijing compared to Macau, positioning it to compete effectively against Macau’s dominance in the regional casino tourism market.
Innovative Gaming Experiences Debut at Park MGM
In a separate development, MGM has recently received approval to introduce a pioneering gaming experience at its Park MGM property. This innovative concept allows players to record and share their gameplay, aiming to capture the growing interest in interactive entertainment similar to video game and iGaming streaming platforms.
