MGM China Achieves Record Quarterly Results Amid Macau’s Gaming Revival

Outstanding Quarterly Performance by MGM China
MGM China has experienced a remarkably strong year so far, recently announcing its highest-ever quarterly financial outcomes. This success coincides with a sustained resurgence in Macau’s tourism and gaming industries.
Net Revenue Climbs by 8.4% in Q2
During the April to June quarter, MGM China reported net revenue of HK$8.7 billion (approximately US$1.1 billion), marking an 8.4% increase compared to the previous quarter. Earlier in the year, the company had implemented salary increases for nearly all of its workforce, reinforcing its positive momentum.
The company’s adjusted EBITDA rose to HK$2.5 billion (around US$318 million), representing a 6.1% quarter-on-quarter growth. Notably, this performance stands 172% above the figures recorded before the pandemic in 2019, highlighting a significant recovery.
Visitor Numbers Surge 12% Year-on-Year
The number of visitors to MGM China properties grew by 12% compared to the same period last year, reaching 175% of the visitor levels seen in 2019. Macau’s overall recovery has been vital in this progress, with average daily visitor arrivals reaching 102,812 in the second quarter. This reflects a 19% increase over 2024 figures and approaches 94% of pre-pandemic numbers.
Daily gross gaming revenue at MGM properties also rose to MOP111.2 million (about US$13.7 million), a 12% year-over-year increase that exceeds the first quarter’s average of MOP100.4 million (approximately US$12.4 million). The citywide daily gross gaming revenue saw an 8% increase year-on-year, reaching MOP671.6 million (around US$83 million).
MGM China’s market share in Macau increased slightly to 16.6%, with MGM Cotai accounting for 10.5% and MGM Macau for 6.2%. Hotel occupancy rates remained healthy at 94.5%, and the company closed the quarter with HK$22.5 billion (about US$2.86 billion) in available liquidity, ensuring strong financial stability.
Focus on Enhancing Luxury Experiences
To attract high-end guests, MGM China has introduced new premium accommodations. At MGM Macau, the recently completed 28 Alpha Villas are now fully operational and well-received by luxury visitors. Meanwhile, MGM Cotai is in the process of converting existing rooms into 60 new suites designed specifically for upscale travelers.
President and executive director Kenneth Feng attributes the company’s continued growth to its proactive approach in anticipating customer preferences and updating offerings to meet evolving demands. He expressed satisfaction with the recent quarter’s results, crediting their deep customer insight and product innovation.
Expanding Entertainment and Cultural Appeal
Beyond luxury accommodations, MGM China supports Macau’s aim to diversify its tourism offerings. This includes hosting major culinary events such as the MGM x RR1HK Culinary Masters Macau and sporting competitions like the Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza.
The theatrical residency show Macau 2049, directed by Zhang Yimou, reached a major milestone by celebrating its 100th performance, attracting a significant international audience with 30% of attendees coming from overseas.
Looking ahead, Feng reaffirmed MGM’s commitment to delivering unique and high-quality experiences that align with Macau Government’s vision of transforming the city into a premier global tourist destination.
