MGCB Expands Crackdown on Unlicensed Gambling Websites in Michigan
Michigan Gaming Control Board Targets Illegal Gambling Platforms
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has intensified its efforts to shut down unauthorized gambling websites operating within Michigan. Recently, the MGCB issued new cease-and-desist orders against several online platforms that are functioning without the required licenses.
Focus on Offshore Operators Violating State Laws
This action is part of a broader initiative by the MGCB to identify and close down offshore gambling operators violating multiple state regulations. The board has highlighted breaches of at least three key laws governing gaming in Michigan:
- The Lawful Internet Gaming Act
- The Michigan Gaming Control and Revenue Act
- The Michigan Penal Code
Among those targeted are websites run by Tech Zone Inc, a company headquartered in the Comoros. The flagged sites include Betty Wins, Orbit Spins, Pacific Spins Casino, and Yabby Casino.
These operators have offered gambling services traditionally regulated by the state and require proper licensing from the MGCB. However, none of these sites or their parent company hold the necessary Michigan licenses, making their activities illegal within the state.
MGCB Issues Compliance Deadlines and Warns of Enforcement Measures
The MGCB has given the identified websites a 14-day period to comply with the cease-and-desist notices. Failure to do so will prompt involvement from the state’s attorney general and law enforcement agencies to pursue further action.
Henry Williams, the MGCB’s executive director, cautioned these operators against resisting the orders, stating, “Offshore operators may attract players with flashy advertisements and big prize promises, but they ultimately expose consumers to significant financial and personal risks. We remain committed to taking strict action against unlicensed sites to preserve the integrity, legality, and safety of gambling in Michigan.”
To date, the MGCB has taken action against over 130 illegal gambling websites, signaling that this crackdown will continue aggressively to protect consumers and uphold state gaming laws.
