Meridianbet Expands Local Operations through Fairbet Acquisition

Meridianbet, a well-known gaming and betting operator, has successfully completed the purchase of Fairbet, another gaming company holding a license in Malta. This acquisition is set to enhance Meridianbet’s presence within the Maltese gaming market.

Strengthening Market Position in Malta and Gozo

With full control over Fairbet’s operations spanning Malta and Gozo, Meridianbet has notably increased its land-based footprint in this region. The acquisition includes the addition of nine new retail outlets, bringing Meridianbet’s total local stores to twenty, further consolidating its physical presence.

The integration of Fairbet, which previously collaborated with Meridianbet through a technology partnership, will now be fully absorbed under the Meridianbet brand.

This strategic move is particularly significant given Malta’s strict regulatory environment for casinos, where Meridianbet now holds two out of three gaming licenses. The last license remains with Izibet, Malta’s National Lottery operator.

Strategic Growth through Mergers and Acquisitions

Company leadership states that this acquisition aligns perfectly with Meridianbet’s strategy of fostering growth by combining organic development with carefully chosen mergers and acquisitions, especially in markets with regulations that encourage consolidation.

Zoran Milosevic, CEO of Meridianbet, explained that the deal not only reinforces the company’s stance within a challenging regulatory framework but also epitomizes their approach to expansion.

“This acquisition exemplifies our strategic approach to M&A, focusing on markets with high entry barriers where limited licensing fosters sustainable competitive advantages,” said Milosevic.

Given Meridianbet’s deep roots in Malta, the company aims to leverage the growing domestic gaming demand alongside the steady influx of tourists visiting Malta and Gozo.

Expansion and Presence in Broader Markets

Beyond Malta, Meridianbet continues to expand across key European markets, including through partnerships such as their recent sponsorship deal with FK Sarajevo, a prominent football club in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The company maintains a global footprint across multiple continents and remains actively engaged in pursuit of new strategic opportunities for growth.
