Incident Overview

Andrew DeShield, 62, from Bensalem, has been charged after leaving his pit bull mix, Gucci, locked inside his car while he visited Parx casino last weekend. The dog tragically died due to the extreme heat inside the vehicle.

Discovery of the Dog’s Condition

A security employee found Gucci suffering inside the hot car and immediately sought out DeShield on the premises. The dog’s body temperature had risen dangerously to 108 degrees Fahrenheit. Gucci was taken to a veterinary clinic, but DeShield later took the dog back home from the vet.

Police Intervention and Charges

The following day, police went to DeShield’s home and found Gucci deceased in the vehicle. DeShield was arrested and is currently held at Bucks County Correctional Center after refusing to post the $200,000 bail. He faces serious charges including aggravated animal cruelty resulting in death, as well as misdemeanor counts of animal neglect and cruelty. These charges could lead to a prison sentence of up to seven years and fines reaching $15,000. DeShield’s prior felony convictions, including drug-related offenses, may also impact his legal situation.

Unclear Circumstances Surrounding Gucci’s Death

Details about the exact circumstances of Gucci’s death remain unclear. Investigators noted that DeShield took custody of Gucci before the dog could receive proper medical care. It is uncertain whether Gucci was left in the hot car again or moved there after passing away.

Potential Consequences for DeShield

DeShield is likely to face jail time and may be added to Pennsylvania’s Involuntary Exclusion List. This list prohibits individuals from participating in gambling activities across the state when their actions pose risks to others’ safety.
