Malik Beasley Evicted Amid FBI Gambling Probe

Malik Beasley, former guard for the Detroit Pistons, is currently experiencing significant off-court challenges. Recently, it has been reported that the 28-year-old athlete has been evicted from his apartment, adding to a series of difficulties he is facing.

Outstanding Rent Exceeding $20,000

Beasley had been living at The Stott, a high-rise building in downtown known for its modern amenities and impressive city views. The property is part of the real estate investments owned by Cavaliers’ owner Dan Gilbert. Court documents reveal that Beasley’s landlord has filed two lawsuits against him this year due to unpaid rent totaling over $21,500.

In the latest case, Beasley was taken to court over $7,355 in unpaid rent. As he did not respond to the suit, a default judgment was issued against him. This legal matter is still ongoing.

This development follows a challenging offseason for Beasley. Earlier in the year, discussions were underway about a possible three-year contract worth $42 million for him to continue with the Detroit Pistons. However, these negotiations stalled after news emerged in June regarding a federal investigation into suspicious betting activities associated with NBA games he participated in during his time with the Milwaukee Bucks.

According to reports, at least one sportsbook noticed unusual betting patterns on Beasley’s player props throughout the 2023-24 season. His attorney, Steve Haney, has highlighted that no charges have been filed and maintains Beasley’s right to be presumed innocent under the law.

Beyond the gambling investigation, Beasley’s financial issues have come under scrutiny. His former marketing agency, Hazan Sports Management Group, alleges that he defaulted on a $650,000 advance. Additionally, there are claims of outstanding smaller debts to various service providers, including a barber, dentist, lender, and landlord.

Determined to Prove His Worth in the NBA

Despite the controversies and financial difficulties, Beasley remains focused on his basketball career. He has addressed critics through social media, expressing his determination to overcome obstacles and affirm his place in the league.

In his statements, Beasley conveyed that he is motivated to show his capabilities and is ready to face any competition head-on, emphasizing his belief that he still belongs in the NBA.

The Atlanta native, who signed a one-year $6 million contract with the Pistons last season, averaged 16.3 points per game and was the runner-up for the Sixth Man of the Year award. His future in the NBA remains uncertain as the gambling investigation continues to develop.
