Macau Authorities and Casinos Prepare for Super Typhoon Ragasa

The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), in collaboration with six licensed casino operators and the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL), convened an emergency session to plan for the approaching Super Typhoon Ragasa. This meeting aimed to organize precautionary actions ahead of the severe weather conditions expected to impact the region.

Casino Operations Suspended as Typhoon Signal No. 8 is Raised

On September 22, officials confirmed that all casinos in Macau would cease operations following the issuance of Typhoon Signal No. 8 by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau. This warning is currently active, prompting the temporary closure of all gaming establishments across the special administrative region.

In response to the alert, casino staff and visitors were instructed to leave the premises within two hours to ensure safety. The DICJ continues to oversee the situation closely, ensuring that all anti-typhoon procedures are strictly implemented and maintaining communication with casino operators as the storm progresses.

Macau’s officials emphasize their ongoing commitment to keeping both residents and tourists well-informed about operational shutdowns, allowing ample time for preparation.

Macau Faces Elevated Threat of Higher Typhoon Alerts and Storm Surge

Super Typhoon Ragasa is advancing toward Macau, positioned approximately 370 kilometers away as of 5 pm local time. The government has already suspended multiple public services, including transportation and ferry routes, in anticipation of the storm’s arrival.

By 7 pm on September 23, forecasts indicated a strong likelihood of escalating to Typhoon Signals No. 9 and No. 10, alongside a moderate chance of a “black” Storm Surge Warning. Signal No. 9 is expected to be issued between midnight and 2 am on September 24, followed by Signal No. 10 between 4 am and 6 am. The black Storm Surge Warning may also be activated early that morning.

At the time of this report, Typhoon Signal No. 8 and a “red” Storm Surge Warning remain in place as officials monitor the evolving situation closely.
