Lawsuit Filed Against Casino-Hotel Following Alleged False Imprisonment and Assault

Background of the Incident
On December 18, a lawsuit was officially lodged in Clark County District Court concerning an incident that took place at the Mandalay Bay casino-hotel. Stephen M. Soldis claims that security personnel wrongfully detained him and physically assaulted him during the event.
The security team accused Soldis of assaulting one of their members, which led to his detention. The lawsuit outlines five separate allegations: false imprisonment, battery, defamation, conversion or trespass to personal property, and assault.
Soldis is seeking compensation amounting to $15,000 along with interest, legal costs, and attorneys’ fees, pursuing both compensatory and punitive damages.
Details of the Encounter
The incident reportedly happened on April 9, 2024, during a show hosted at Mandalay Bay. Security personnel escorted Soldis out of the venue and instructed him to leave the premises.
According to the lawsuit, Soldis requested a refund for the event, which was denied, and he then attempted to exit the building. However, a security guard blocked his path, allegedly trying to record him with a cellphone.
As Soldis attempted to continue toward the exit, the guard’s behavior became intimidating. The guard confronted him closely and placed a hand on his shoulder, which Soldis tried to remove, escalating into a physical altercation.
Following this, more security staff intervened, physically restraining and allegedly beating Soldis before placing him in a holding cell. The lawsuit describes these actions as rising to the level of criminal assault.
Claims of Personal Harm
During the restraint, security personnel took possession of Soldis’s belongings, including his wallet. Soldis reports experiencing significant physical distress, including muscle strains and contusions resulting from the alleged mistreatment.
Beyond physical injuries, Soldis states he has suffered emotional harm, leading to a diminished trust in society, the justice system, and fellow citizens.
