Las Vegas Sands Begins Landmark Expansion at Marina Bay Sands

Las Vegas Sands, a leading player in the casino and hospitality industry, has launched a major expansion project for its Marina Bay Sands resort in Singapore. This ambitious development, valued at $8 billion, aims to significantly enhance the company’s presence in the Singapore market.

Significance for Las Vegas Sands and Singapore

The construction officially started on a recent Tuesday, with an expected completion date set for June 2030. A groundbreaking ceremony took place on July 15, featuring attendance from company executives as well as key Singaporean leaders including Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Grace Fu Hai.

Prime Minister Wong praised the enduring partnership between Singapore and Las Vegas Sands, highlighting its success and the opportunities it has unlocked for expansion. He expressed gratitude for the company’s confidence in Singapore’s growth and anticipates further strengthening of their collaboration.

Rob Goldstein, CEO of Las Vegas Sands, shared his enthusiasm about the project, calling Marina Bay Sands the “most successful integrated resort” to date and expressing excitement about embarking on this new phase of development.

“When our founder Sheldon G. Adelson opened Marina Bay Sands in 2010, it marked the beginning of an exciting journey in Singapore that transformed regional tourism. Fifteen years later, we have met and exceeded those ambitions.”

Pending smooth progress, the new facilities are anticipated to open in January 2031.

Details of the Expansion

The $8 billion expansion, often referred to as Marina Bay Sands 2.0, will introduce a striking new 55-story tower with approximately 570 luxurious suites. This addition will not only accommodate more guests but will also include an expanded gaming area, offering a broader range of gambling options.

Visitors can look forward to an enhanced retail and dining experience with various shops and restaurants, along with new leisure amenities. The development will also feature a 200,000-square-foot space dedicated to meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE). Within this space, a 15,000-seat arena designed by Populous—the same firm behind the Las Vegas Sphere—will provide a state-of-the-art venue for events.

One of the standout features will be a 76,000-square-foot Skyloop, presenting multiple dining options, a garden, infinity-edge pools, and a variety of private and public areas. This rooftop attraction will complement the iconic sky-high facilities of the original Marina Bay Sands building, enhancing the resort’s unique appeal.
